MissionsThe organizations listed below are actively supported by our church. Many of our members are also involved in a variety of nonprofit organizations in the Anchorage area, including Covenant House (shelter for youth), Mary Magdalene House-Alaska (assists prostitutes who want to change lifestyles), Habitat for Humanity, YWCA, and others. Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) is a support group for adult alcoholics who desire to stop drinking and Al-anon is a support group for loved ones of alcoholics. Chapters of these groups meet regularly at Anchor Park. Alternative Christmas Market is traditionally held on the first Sunday of Advent. Alternative gifts are donated in honor of a recipient to support missions around the world. Gift recipients receive a card explaining where their gift is making a difference. Bean's Cafe is a soup kitchen and day shelter for the homeless and less fortunate in Anchorage. Anchor Park members serve breakfast at Bean's on the third Monday morning of each month beginning at 7:45am. Bean's also accepts donations: paper towels, toilet paper, bleach, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, flour, canned fruits and vegetables (no. 10 size), 33-gallon trash bags, bus tokens, books and magazines. Bean's Cafe is always in need of volunteers to assist with kitchen preparation, basic housekeeping, grounds keeping, and maintenance work.
Clare House is a shelter for homeless women and children. Anchor Park members have been helping at Clare House for 15 years by providing one meal a month for residents. On the second Monday of each month, four members provide a meat dish, three make salads, three make desserts, and one person brings three loaves of bread. Clare House also accepts donations of food, 2% milk, women's and children's clothing, toys, diapers, baby food, and toiletries. FISH (Fellowship In Service to Humanity) is an all-volunteer organization that provides three days of meals to families temporarily without food or means. Anchor Park UMC provides 240 cans of tuna fish each month for these specifically planned menus. A basket for donations is available inside the door to the education wing. Blood Drives - The church sponsors periodic blood drives to support the Anchorage Blood Bank.
